Energy Work with Dogs is written by PetMassage™ Institute founder Jonathan Rudinger. He demonstrates and teaches his pet massage methods throughout the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. This book is a continuation of his first book, Effective PetMassage™ for Dogs. The book begins with a discussion of Mr. Rudinger's background as both an RN and a LMT. He has used his training in modalities such as human medical massage, healing touch, martial arts, positional release and myofascial work. He has also used his own experiences and intuition working with animals to develop a massage and energy work system specifically adapted to dogs.

There is a good discussion on the many benefits of massage to the physical, behavioral and emotional health of dogs. Jonathan believes almost all dogs benefit from regular massage treatments. Energy Work for Dogs is aimed at pet guardians. I was impressed that, throughout the book, the author reminds readers that these techniques are meant to support regular veterinary care, whether it be conventional or alternative. He stresses that diagnosis of specific conditions and the recommendation of treatment protocols, even supplements and diets, are not included within the scope of PetMassage. He says, "the techniques we teach complement the fine work already being done by veterinarians," and urges pet owners to develop a good relationship with a veterinarian. He explains how massage and energy work can strengthen the bond between pet guardians and their dogs.

This book contains a lot of information. Throughout the book, the author talks about the concept of a vital energy. The most delightful and useful aspects of this book are the numerous "exercises to try" at the end of each chapter. Exercises included observing energy in our own body, grounding ourselves before giving a massage to a dog, and sensing the energy fields surrounding dogs. Actively performing these exercises would be a great way to increase our own perception and intuition.

There is a discussion of massage techniques, although massage itself was discussed in greater detail in Mr. Rudinger's first book. As well as massage the book introduces acupressure, the concept of Qi flowing through meridians, energy fields, chakras and healing touch. There is also excellent information throughout the book on reading a dog's body language, asking permission and allowing the dog to refuse any techniques he or she doesn't like.

Mr Rudinger's goal was not to have his readers learn specific acupressure points, but rather to be aware that points and meridians do exist, and show their general locations.

The final section of the book ties all of the information together, and goes through a practical, detailed, step-by-step guide to giving a whole body massage. I would recommend this book to dog-loving clients wanting to learn how to massage their own dogs to improve circulation, flexibility, and comfort levels: and above all to enhance their relationship with their pet.

Energy Work Home Study Course

PetMassage Energy Work With Dogs, Accessing the Magnificent Body Language and Body Wisdom of the Dog

"As an adult, I learned that this ability to understand and be understood by animals is not universal - It is unusual and precious."

This course will help you to enhance the energetic quality of your life and the lives of your animals. Dogs are energetic creatures in many ways. Those of us, who have survived Beagle or Lab puppies, know more about puppy energy than most of us ever need to know! The constant movement, the curiosity, the nonstop play are indicators of high animation; kinetic energy. The magnificent stillness we experience as the puppies collapse into sleep creates potential energy.

Energy work, the subject of this text, is an extension of the PetMassage learned in our earlier courses. You will develop greater insight into the massage process when you understand the dynamics that occur between you and your dog as your two energetic bodies unite. The skills (tools) that you'll learn in this course are ones that you can easily use and add to your practice.
