Since 1997, Foundation PetMassage_™ workshops have concentrated on teaching our specific hands-on skills to prepare you, the student, to immediately begin to create and practice your canine massage business. We focus on that which we have identified as the most important part of massage, the intuitive aspect of massage, or, what happens when your hands touch the dog's body.

The seven-day PetMassage_™ Foundation offers instruction in many canine massage techniques, basic anatomy, physiology, ethics, and marketing. We especially focus on using safe energy-body mechanics, interpreting animal body language. Students learn to enhance their own body awareness while developing the intuitive skills necessary to be effective in providing general, basic canine massage.

To prepare for this workshop, you will study the PetMassage™ for Dogs, Art and Essence of Canine Massage, DVDs, and 2 books, Creating & Marketing Your Animal Massage Business and Dog Anatomy Coloring Atlas. Along with your life experience, this is your foundation for the volume of information you will receive through (discussion style) lectures and individual, hands-on instruction working with dogs. We discuss, demonstrate, and practice and then you return-demonstrate your understanding and practice of massage, energy and body mechanics, theory and techniques, legal issues, business ethics, and marketing.

This is for massage therapists and pet care professionals, as well as people who are in "vocational transition" and would like to learn PetMassage_™ to create businesses.

Students learn in an atmosphere of comfort and support. You may bring your own dogs to class or we provide extra dogs. During the seven days of the workshop, you will learn and practice with your dog, the other students' dogs, and temporary residents at our local ASPCA.

Movement and breathing exercises expand your sensory and spiritual awareness', develop healthy body mechanics, and make your massage more effective. A field trip to a humane society completes the course. This course has been described as a personal development and enrichment class through the medium of canine bodywork.

The instruction is supportive, encouraging and geared to help you to discover and develop your own personal massage form. The course includes modules on anatomy, physiology and behaviors of the dog, the affect of PetMassage™ on body systems, ethics and business marketing strategies. 

Certificates of course completion are awarded upon completion of the workshop, a take-home test and documentation of ten canine massages.

Our students learn to induce balance with a very gentle, effective, basic massage form. This massage covers more than 75 per cent of the dogs you will work with and is an excellent start to your education and practice.

However, being generally effective is not the same as being knowledgeable for therapeutic purposes. The latter requires much more specialized information and training. The Advanced PetMassage_™ workshop moves your practice toward massage as therapy, where your practice can be more effective when working with veterinarians, training, and rehabilitation venues.

Students are encouraged to bring dogs. In fact, for every 2 dogs, you bring we will take $25 off your workshop course fees.  If you are unable to bring your own dog, other lucky canine volunteers are provided.

Days and times: Sunday through Saturday classes: 9 AM to 4 PM with breaks for lunch.

Workshop fee: $1400 per person (50 CEUs for MTs). (25% discount for repeat students)
