History

It has only been within the last decade that massage therapy for people has been accepted by the medical community and national media.

Studies by the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami (FL) Medical School produced reliable data demonstrating the benefits of massage for people. With the results of these studies and increased market-driven demand created from articles in national magazines, those who might have been initially hesitant, began to include massage therapy in their procedures. They soon learned that massage has more meaningful uses than simply relaxation.

Massage therapy for people quickly became integrated into rehab and health maintenance regimens. It is now a staple in many clinical, spa, sports team and hospice programs. It was tested; it delivered an effective therapeutic tool and it mainstreamed.

PetMassage Research studies help to validate massage therapy as a therapeutic resource for animals, establishing its credibility and usefulness.

These are some of the clinically proven effects of massage on people:

  • Enhanced body awareness
  • Improved pain management
  • Enhanced healing time
  • Faster return to normal function
  • Less complications from disease
  • Increased blood and lymph flow
  • Prevention of muscle atrophy

Potential benefits of PetMassage

We have observed and documented individual cases of dogs in which PetMassage had the following effects:

  • Increases healthy body awareness
  • Increases circulation (as indicated by increased surface tissue temperature)
  • Increases flexibility
  • Reduces muscular tension
  • Reduces muscle atrophy
  • Helpful in pain management
  • Enhances healing time for faster return to normal functioning
  • Maintains and enhances quality of life--of pets and their people--with regularly scheduled sessions
  • Increases trust and compliance in grooming and nail trimming
  • Enables better bonding and care for pets, increased positive psychological effects in bonding, grieving, anxiety and aggression
  • and, complements veterinary treatments

Further documentation is needed. This is the reason for our studies.
